C-SED is seeking student lab assistants to monitor and assist student project teams in the Prototyping Lab (3341 GG Brown). This position is responsible for overseeing and assisting with training, use, and maintenance of the lab. Monitor and assist with safe use of woodworking equipment like saws and drill presses and general workshop tools. Assist the Center for Socially Engaged Design staff with evaluating needs of design teams and proposing solutions. Assist Lab Manager with tracking and ordering lab tools and supplies. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform cleaning tasks, open and close the lab, staff open house events, assist with other Center for Socially Engaged Design needs, and support other tasks when the need arises.
The successful candidate ideally will have experience in a workshop and on a student design team; however those applicants with only shop experience should not be deterred from applying. You must possess the ability to work independently, be dependable, and be user focused.
Time Commitment: 8-12 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $9-12, pending prior relevant experience and education level
