Robert Loweth is a PhD pre-candidate in Mechanical Engineering. He has a B.S. in Engineering Sciences from Yale University, with a double major in East Asian Studies. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Chinese and American Studies, jointly awarded by Johns Hopkins University and Nanjing University in China. His current research focuses on how undergraduate engineering students approach front-end design activities related to engaging with stakeholders and conducting needs assessments. Since he is fluent in Mandarin, he is also interested in the influence of language and culture on front-end design practices.
As a graduate facilitator for the Center of Socially Engaged Design, Robert has experience leading workshops in co-curricular and course settings to teach skills relating to ideation and stakeholder engagement. In addition to engineering, his design background includes experiences working in theater and architecture.
