C-SED Summer Studio Internships at the University of Michigan: The Summer Studio facilitates the transformation of cutting-edge research into design innovations that have the capacity to change the world. Bringing together interdisciplinary teams of designers, the Studio develops and delivers design recommendations to researchers working on some of society’s most pressing challenges. As collaborative members of an interdisciplinary team, student interns engage clients directly and work together through a design process to create strategies that transform research into desirable, viable, and feasible innovations.

Past Summer Studio projects include:

CEDO / C-SED — Summer '21

This year the Summer Studio is collaborating with the Center for Engineering Diversity and Outreach to bring together an interdisciplinary team of designers that will develop and deliver design recommendations to CSED and CEDO for transformative organizational change. As collaborative members of an interdisciplinary team, student interns engage clients directly and work together through a design process. This year student interns will create a proposed organizational roadmap for our offices to achieve effective collaborations with faculty and teams to ensure their work fulfills the mission of the College – to serve the common good.

Clean Drinking Water — Summer '19

In collaboration with the City of Ann Arbor, a faculty-led U-M College of Engineering team used socially engaged design methods to engage with drinking water stakeholders to gather insights and understand needs for collaboration. This process resulted in the creation of a roadmap for professionals and researchers to follow to ensure their work, through shared communication, trust, and knowledge, positively impacts the health and safety of all Michigan citizens.
