Laura Bland is a Case Writer and Learning Experience Designer at the Center for Social Engaged Engineering and Design. With the Case Studies Initiative team, she develops, researches, and writes case studies that put engineering problems into conversation with real people and real problems, past and present. She also works with graduate facilitators, faculty, and campus partners to integrate cases into new and existing courses in engineering and design.
Before joining C-SED, Laura was an Associate Instructional Professor in the Honors College at the University of Houston where her courses helped STEM students critically explore the social, cultural, and political history of science, technology, and medicine. Her courses have included STEM history, environmental history, disability history, race in medicine, technology and empire, and STEM in literature. She holds a BA in History from Beloit College and an MA and PHD from the University of Notre Dame in the HIstory and Philosophy of Science.
