Neil Johnson-Rogers, PhD

Case Writer and Learning Experience Designer

Neil Johnson-Rogers is a Case Writer and Learning Experience Designer at the Center for Socially Engaged Engineering and Design. He draws on published and archival sources to produce targeted case studies and microhistories that illuminate the ethical, social, political, and environmental dimensions of engineering problems and design choices. He also works with graduate facilitators and instructional partners to integrate case studies into engineering and design courses.

Neil holds an MA and a Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a BA in History and American Studies from the University of Nottingham. His teaching and research interests lie at the intersection of technology, labor, education, and political economy in the United States. He is particularly interested in how the rise of the “human capital” paradigm in economic thought delimited the boundaries of economic and social policy making in the second half of the twentieth century.
