Students
The Center for Socially Engaged Design provides students the necessary space and tools to think more critically about design. Whether you’re currently in a course, working solo, or on a co-curricular team — or you have an idea you’d like to explore, C-SED can help…
C-SED’s Course Offerings
We are thrilled to introduce the Socially Engaged Engineering & Design (SEED) Seminar course! In this 1-credit course, students will take a dive deep into the impact of engineering on people and society through real-world case studies, guest speakers, and reflective exercises. Students will explore topics that connect their technical skills to broader questions of social responsibility, and discover how to create solutions that drive real change.

The FUSED Program
The FUSED (Functional Uses of Socially Engaged Design) Program has been designed specifically for College of Engineering project teams with a clear social impact or community engagement element in their mission. Teams that participate in this will benefit from collaborative accountability and socially engaged engineering & design support.
Online Learning Opportunities
The Center for Socially Engaged Engineering and Design offers several opportunities to learn and practice the skills of socially engaged design. Check out our Socially Engaged Design Academy (SEDA) or “Introduction to Socially Engaged Design” online course hosted on Coursera.

DESIGN SKILL SESSIONS
Join us for our next Design Skill Session or request one. C-SED offers sessions on a variety of topics throughout the year. We also work with faculty to facilitate sessions tailored to align with coursework or support learning in specific areas. We’re ready to help broaden understanding on everything from community engagement to best practices for eliciting user requirements and specifications.
The C-SED Lab
The Center for Socially Engaged Engineering & Design (C-SED) Lab is a collaborative design and project laboratory where students convene to learn, make, and build community. We are committed to maintaining an open community space for independent student projects, student teams, and faculty-led courses through the values of C-SED and the process of socially engaged engineering and design.
